Adopt a Family 2011

Christmas gifts - Kelly Caldwell's siteChristmas is coming and as excited as I am about the holidays, I’m very aware that this time of year can be incredibly difficult for some. And while it’s true that the holiday season is about celebrating, for me this year it’s also going to be about giving back. My partner and I are opting out of buying gifts for each other, and will instead use that money to participate in the Adopt-a-Family program of the The Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington.

I really believe in the work this organization does. Throughout the year, these folks help children in the region in a variety of ways – and at Christmastime, the group plays Santa and provides gifts to families, kids and independent teens in our region who would otherwise almost certainly go without.

You can sign up online for this program, but there are also other ways to lend your support, including:

  • Team up with others at your workplace, book club or sports team to make a collective contribution.
  • Donate gift cards, movie tickets or other passes that you can spare.
  • Donate wrapping paper, gift bags and tape.
  • Volunteer to help wrap gifts.
