Energy Savings Program Renewed

Today, it was announced that the Federal Government has renewed the ecoENERGY Retrofit – Homes program. The goal of the program is to encourage Canadians to make their homes more energy efficient.

I had an energy audit conducted on my house this year and, in addition to learning an awful lot about my home, I was able to take advantage of some of the program credits. We had work done in the attic and the basement – all of which has made our home more comfortable and measurably more energy efficient.

You can apply now and, depending upon your home’s energy rating and the renovations you undertake, you may be eligible to receive grants of up to $5,000. Another benefit to the program is the boost it gives to the companies involved in providing the various services.

One caveat: it may take some time to receive your rebate cheque. In my case, it was a number of months before the rebate arrived. But if you’re in a position to invest in your home and wait a few months for those rebates, it’s worth a look.
