As the saying goes, you usually have to kiss a few frogs before you find a prince. The same can be said for homes, if you’re a buyer.
Now, it goes without saying that you can and should seek expert advice from a Real Estate Agent regarding market trends, home values and more. But in addition to the advice you’ll get from a Realtor, when you’re in the market for a new home, you can receive a great education through the process of visiting Open Houses.
With every home you view, you’re learning about the market and also learning more about what you like – or don’t like – in terms of neighbourhoods, home styles, features, etc. You’ll learn, through time, to evaluate the pros and cons of each home you visit – the drawbacks, the benefits, the ‘nice to haves’ and the ‘can’t live withouts.’
So the next time you go to an open house that’s a dud, don’t consider it a waste of time; consider it an education.
Food for thought.
